City Life – Pooja and Parsad in Ranchor Lines

The old temple inside Ranchor Lines brims with life during pooja time.

The Karachi Walla was in Ranchor Lines and ended up at Narsingha Bhagwan Mandir by chance. I was helping a bunch of students and were done with the tour by noon. The heat and dust had consumed our energy and we were all set to head back when we found ourselves taking a detour in front of the temple due to traffic. I told the students about the temple which was tucked there between the residential quarters and they immediately signed up for it.

As we crossed the tiny entrance, I noticed that there were more people than usual. Turned out that there was Pooja going on. There were people standing in row with lit up diya’s in their hands. The priest would take them one by one and place them inside the chambers in front of Narsingha Bhagwan’s statute.

To the other side, all around the main temple, people were sitting on the floor waiting for parsad. We adjusted in one corner and one of the helpers immediately handed over us servings of biryani. As we sat there eating it, a woman turned around and started conversation with one of the girls in our group. She invited her to visit the temple during Monday pooja also.

More people came in. More parsad was distributed. We called it a day but the party continued.
